AnonymousInactiveHas anyone else had money to help towards the cost of the register? Some of our neighbours have but unfortunately it is as usual un-ring-fenced (when will they learn that things always get swallowed in the pot if not ring-fenced?) If anyone knows who it came from (presume DCLG) and what they said it was for exactly it might help me track down where ours has gone.

AnonymousInactiveLiz- we understand the DCLG is making grant funding support available to councils via s31 LGA under new burdens arrangements. The payments are un-ringfenced so your council finance team will need to advice how this money is being spent. Contact the DCLG about scale of payments and timing.

AnonymousInactiveLiz - Teignbridge received a single payment of £5,850 from DCLG around 11th July 2016. I enquired with DCLG and received the following response:
‘The purpose of the grant payment for £5,850 is to provide support to the council towards expenditure lawfully incurred by it in relation to its duty to keep a register under the Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015. It’s a one-off grant payment and is non-ringfenced.
We assessed that the Regulations that bring into force the provisions of the Act create a new burden. Funding was identified through the New Burdens Assessment process to support authorities who will incur additional burdens as a result of setting up and maintaining a register. This takes account of the capital and resource costs involved in establishing a register and the resource costs involved in maintaining the register.’

AnonymousInactiveCharles- have you enquired with DCLG more recently? Our understanding was that there was new burdens funding forthcoming post commencement of the ‘land duty’ for self-build and custom homebuilding in the Housing and Planning Act 2016.

AnonymousInactiveI have been updated by DCLG this morning. The £5850 (non ring-fenced) payment Teignbridge received in July 2016 was a one off payment relating to setting up the register in line with the 1st April Register Regs. A further (potentially ongoing) payment will be made by DCLG relating to running the register and duty to consent plots etc. No details as yet of the payment amount. Will likely be this financial year.
